Bio: Maia Mombrú Frutos is a final year PhD student at Universidad de la República in Uruguay, studying nanostructured bismuth based compound semiconductors for technological applications. She also has a MSc. in Nanoscience and Functional Nanomaterials from the University of Bristol (cohort 2016) through a Chevening Scholarship. Along with her PhD, she is currently an Assistant Professor at Facultad de Química, Universidad de la República, where she teaches courses on Nanotechnology, Materials Science, and Nuclear Sciences. Throughout her years working at Facultad de Quimica, she has always been engaged in outreach activities. In particular, she has been part of the organisation of the National Crystal Growing Competition for the past 10 years.
